About a year ago, I went to Junk Bonanza in Shakopee, Minnesota. It's a huge event with vendors selling antique, vintage, and repurposed items. There was an unbelievable amount of stuff. The one thing I really remember was the booth selling baseball cuff bracelets. I really, really liked the idea, and that summer I tried making my own. They turned out really cute, but I personally didn't like the way the leather held the shape of the ball. I couldn't get it to lay flat around my wrist. But they were still fun to make, so I made bracelets until I ran out of balls.
This week, I found some old baseballs stuck up on the top shelve at a Goodwill store. I think I was more excited then a little kid. I couldn't wait to try again. This time I made wrap bracelets using the original stitching. I just took a craft knife and cut all the way around the stitches.
Then I pulled the casing off the core, so I was just left with the stitches. I cut them off and trimmed the edges, then I used my uncle's handy dandy leather puncher to punch holes for the clasp.
And after a little bit of stretching, and some more trimming, I installed the snap.
The only step left was a photo shoot.
I found an old baseball bat in the garage. It makes an excellent prop. Pictures are so much fun, I took a total of 83...
And last but not least, my dog Vinnie, patiently waiting for me to be done so he can go back inside. Thanks Buddy.
